I have always loved to travel. Being in new places, discovering new things and being a part of new cultures excites me. Recently, I have been questioning the future. Growing up, I have always wanted to be a doctor. The idea of helping people and being able to provide a service that many people cannot seems like such a wonderful opportunity. However, I have begun to seriously question if that is what I really want to do.
During these past few weeks, too many similar events have taken place to just be a coincidence. First of all, many of my friends have been traveling to places I would love to go. When you see pictures and posts of people you know in exotic places, it is exciting! One of my closest family friends had the opportunity to take a three week trip backpacking across Europe. Another one of my dear friends had the chance to venture out of her comfort zone and take a two week trip to Lima, Peru. She visited Machu Picchu and the Amazon Rainforest!
On top of these two friends being out of the country, my absolute favorite adventure blogger returned after being MIA on social media for over eight weeks. She lived in New York City and ended up moving to London to attend Cambridge (my two favorite cities and one of my dream schools!!). She posts pictures and writes stories about her adventures. I look up to this sweet blogger to say the least.
Finally, I was spoken to through a book. My grandma gave me a copy of The Promise of a Pencil by Adam Braun. (This book is life changing and I am not even half way through it. I have taken notes, dog eared pages, and take it with me everywhere. I plan on doing a complete review post when I finish it.) Adam Braun grew up very similar to how I did, in a family that loved him and did not have many problems. When he got to college, he had the chance to venture out on a semester at sea. This is when he found his passion to help others in impoverished countries.
So if you have not caught the hint, I am feeling a clear calling to travel. I have always known that once I graduate high school, I want to leave the state to go to school. These things all happening at once on top of the fact that I have a general desire to travel is simply overjoying.
How will I live out this calling, one may ask? I will start small and simple: travel within my community. Volunteer, serve, minister, and give back is what I will do. I will begin to give my time to contribute to the greater good of this world as a whole. Next, I will embark upon bigger journeys. Over these next few years, I will have the chance to go on multiple mission trips. My goal is to go as many of the trips as possible. I will continue to pray for good timing and to see where my help is needed.
"For there is a time and a way for everything, although man's trouble lies heavy on him." Ecclesiastes 8:6As I have mentioned before, I absolutely love seeing my prayers answered. Even though I have not gotten answers about my life in the near future, I will continue to pray for direction of my path. I know that God has great plans for me and my life.
Best wishes,
Grace
